A documentation of Matt Eddy's attempt to go from Lynn Massachusetts to Long Beach California in an electric wheelchair for the Guinness Book of World Records. More information about the trip and donations can be made at http://www.officialmattsplace.org/ Throughout the trip I am also doing my own documentary which will consist of digital photography, video, and possibly film. Stay tuned! |
The adventure continues ! Night before last we spent at the John Wayne airport , the planes were so close it looked like you could reach out and touch them. Practically shook the whole RV. It was pretty cool to see over 20 planes landing in one night !!
Then the next day (oct. 14) we went to Newport Vent. where everyone was welcoming us with open arms. We got a behind the scenes tour of how a vent is made, quality checked, tested for days, and then shipped away to help people breath ! We all really enjoyed learning about them. Then they had lunch for us. 115 employees came to congratulate Matt with tons of balloons, a very generous donation, and they all signed the truck ! Then they put us up for the night at the Newport Dunes, the nicest campground we stayed at yet .
Wow , what a feeling, like no other. There is no other joy like victory except when your dirty feet are covered in blisters, your calves are burning, and in the longest four miles of your life, you cross the finish line. Not just any finish line THE FINISH LINE. It gave me goosebumps to see all the people cheering and clapping for Matt (and crew).
A BIG THANKS to everyone who was present to celebrate this once in a lifetime experience with us. Thank you Newport Vent, Jim Seeley, Janus, Cynde Soto, Jennifer,Erica Noriega, Peter Martineau, the Long Beach Police department - Sg. Marcoux and Officer James, the best police escort we have gotten on the whole trip !!! Thank you all so much for making this happen, we really appreciate it @ Matt’s Place !
Literally was the best police escort ever ! Dodging cars, he made all traffic stop at all lights, even gave some traffic direction on his loud speaker accompanied by sirens !! And he ever had more amazing louder ones at the finish line ALONG with lights spectacular. People came out of stores, houses, etc. to line up on the street and watch the Matt’s Place Extraordinary Crew ! Claps , beeps, ( ok so I got a little teary eyed) but we made it !!! WAY TO GO MATT YOU ARE A HERO TO ALL OF US. What a stubborn strong person with such determination . Even the sweet doggies came to greet us at the finish line, of course Maia did finally lay down with her face in the water bowl but she was still part of something that only happens through miracles. One bike with no breaks , 3 sets of wheelchair tires, one bike with no gears, one RV with no door ( well not a working one ) , and a stinky RV fridge , nothing can stop determination.
Hold on to your seat belts folks, this is only the beginning.
After driving down a one way street the wrong way, loosing Moms credit card in Michaels Arts and Crafts and staying up til the a — crack of dawn making t-shirts tommarow cant come soon enough. Now only if I dont fall asleep…
Its the Journey of a Million Smiles. So smile to a complete stranger today. Hopefully they return the favor to someone else. Pass it on.
12.7 miles today.
16 miles today. last super big hill ( i hope ) . almost to the finish line. staying with the momma tongiht. i left my bathing suit in the rv so we bought a budget one for 6 dollars. i have nothing positive to say about this suit and my mother keeps telling me i look like a taxi cab.
Four months with no mommadukes… I’m so excited to see her tommarow !!
15 miles give or take, currently we are a little lost, went to pick matts dad up at lax turns out he’s at the long beach airport, it’s gonna b a long night.
It was a rainy day in California. We got to see planes taking off overhead. Rons breaks gave out and then we had like 3 hills to go down. Matt has this monkey named Timmy and we take pictures with it everyday where we end for the day with a Matts Place Sign. Today we got all ready to take the picture, set up the sign, got out the camera, and ..
Timmy is missing !!!!! M.I.A. Thats what happens when you monkey around.
California is so gorgeous. The sidewalks are even nice here , except for the ones that just lead to a dead end. Summertime and the livin’s easy. 13 miles again today since we are so close to Long Beach . Stayed at the same campground again - Anaheim RV Village. We went to El Pollo Loco after, I was a first timer. Let me tell you it was damn good especially the horchata <3 I have not have that stuff in years and it was off the charts. Probably just cause I missed it . We took a walk down downtown Disney , we walked there. Ron got awed by some piano man then we got to hear some sweet blues. Fireworks were watched from the campsite . Seems like the finish line is right around the corner. Oh yeah , and we met some nice neighbors who donated 80 bucks , he was born in east Lynn. They were watching their grandaughter while their daughter celebrated her first year anniversary awwww.. then we met some lady with 7 pug dogs, one was an akc, and she was living here. far out . she throughs gymnastic parties for kids. livin the life.
<3
I am so excited to see my momma ! 3 days 3 days ! Danielle got us a table, tickets, and booth stand at the Aquarium of the Pacific and hopefully some special guests will be there. Matt did 13 miles today since we are getting so close. It is official I did get my first flat tire but making it all the way to Cali without one flat is not so bad ! We stayed at this campground called off of Cottonwood Rd. in San Jacinto. Had to backtrack to find this campground since the GPS messed us up. Currently cuddling with the Maia Bear now. I can’t believe we are so close to being there. We met some really funny guys here, Danny and Keith. They pretty much told us their interesting life stories and whats it like growing up around here. Pretty neat, they dig wheels for a living.
Nice sidewalks today !
