A documentation of Matt Eddy's attempt to go from Lynn Massachusetts to Long Beach California in an electric wheelchair for the Guinness Book of World Records. More information about the trip and donations can be made at http://www.officialmattsplace.org/ Throughout the trip I am also doing my own documentary which will consist of digital photography, video, and possibly film. Stay tuned! |
Words that come to mind about todays ride… grueling, gruesome, and windy. The rest of the words are to inappropriate to write. So lets see where to begin… David and Matt rode like champs in the wind. Matt wore his awesome banditio ( a wind cover thing for his face) thanks to Mama Shirtcliff. It was so windy I actually wore one too. Matt calls us the banditos because it actually look like he is about to rob a bank when he wears it over his face, there are actually twelve amazing ways you can use it. You can see what I am talking about at www.buff.es/us We are strong supporters of the buff original headwear ! When Ron and I took our bike riding shift for the day we had some difficulty. For starters, we went from 6,000 feet to 7, 276 feet in less then two hours. Seven of those miles were the hardest miles so far on the trip, a very long hill going straight up through the San Francisco Peaks ( which was actually named before San Francisco Matt told me ) . All of these factors accounted for the feeling of not being able to breath in air or catch your breath . Matt was a champ through all of this and actually had to wait for us going up the hill. He dropped down to start doing 25 miles today, thank god because any more on that hill and I do not know if we would have made it ! By the time we were done, a campground was much needed. We ended up staying at the KOA in Flagstaff, got half off the price ! I met the cutest little 5 year old named Gavin who said to his mom ” Yeah I know her, I seen her on TV!” It was a pretty cool feeling to be recognized by a 5 year old !
