rollin' across america. |
A documentation of Matt Eddy's attempt to go from Lynn Massachusetts to Long Beach California in an electric wheelchair for the Guinness Book of World Records. More information about the trip and donations can be made at http://www.officialmattsplace.org/ Throughout the trip I am also doing my own documentary which will consist of digital photography, video, and possibly film. Stay tuned! |
Ok where do I begin? First the basics, Matt pumped out a fabulous 20 miles. Now for some side notes, luckily by serendipity we came across a wonderful man who was filling in for some people at the RV park we stayed at. Before we known it we are learning one of the most unique life stories of the century, his mother was a mathematician for NASA , and his father a photographer for them. His fathers name was D.E. Martin and he was gracious enough to give me a print titled “Sorrow” from him. I will cherish it forever. His father was one of the few famous photographers who had complete control over solarization in the darkroom. His photograph is one of the only ones that stands in the main gallery at The Louvre. He showed us some jaw dropping reticulation photographs as well. Beautiful nudes in the desert. I can not begin to describe the feelings felt from the compositions, lighting effects, and emotions of these photographs. After going through 4 or 5 photographic cases of huge prints and negatives I was on cloud 9. Just when I think I could not get any higher he showed us a couple prints of…. Norma Jeane Baker. A gorgeous profile under a sheet and then a couple showing her flawless face. His father was friends with Ansel Adams.
Just when I think it can’t get any better he tells us they gave his parents a piece of the moon and then his parents split it up for his children. (His mother was one of the people who helped develop the formula for the gravitational pull of the Lunar Module so it would not skip out into space, in turn they gave them a piece of the moon. Anyways on top of that Jon Martin ( is the name of the amazing character we met) got to see a meteorite fall down from the sky and actually got a piece of it. We were lucky enough that we all got to touch, Matt got to sit on, Ron got to stand on , and I got to lick the moon and the meteorite. What an amazing night ! We took pictures the next morning , and honestly it is one of my favorite memories of the trip so far. Also he showed us amazing pictures of jupiter where meteorites hit the size of earth and he has one of the few pictures that shows a hit outside of the southern hemisphere. A true inspiration.
Hopefully we will meet again , in serendipity.
